Event review Understanding the market at Moulding Expo 2019
About 705 exhibitors participated at the leading European event, Moulding Expo. The show also hosted many interesting forums as well as accompanying forums for industry leaders. It was also able to strike the right chord with stakeholders from the tool and mould making industry.
This year’s Moulding Expo was all about innovative solutions, networking and insightful discussions by experts on the global tool and mould making sector. The four day international trade fair for tool, pattern and mould making which was recently held in Stuttgart, Germany created abuzz in the industry with diverse players thronging the European event.

With an impressive inauguration ceremony addressing the market scenario of the industry and emphasizing on the trends, the show opened its doors to the public. Moulding Expo was segmented into six core areas – tool, pattern and mould making; Software for tool, pattern and mould making; Components and accessories for tool, pattern and mould making; Systems for additive manufacturing; Machine tools, cutting tools, measuring technology and special machines for tool, pattern and mould making; and Contract manufacturing and services for tool, pattern and mould making.
In these areas, a wide range of innovative solutions including machine tools, cutting tools, measuring technology and special machines; software; components and accessories; systems for additive manufacturing; etc were displayed at the show. In terms of participation, the event witnessed the presence of 705 exhibitors with an increase of 37 % in foreign exhibitors especially from Portugal, Italy and Turkey.
Other specialised segments
Apart from the many product and technology displays, the show also hosted a series of accompanying programmes and parallel events which attracted visitors in large numbers.
Market Report on Tool Making
At Moulding Expo 2019, a unique initiative was also launched – ‘Market Report on Tool Making’. The aim of the initiative was to promote sustainability in tool, pattern and mould making. Identifying potential opportunities, market transparency and recommendations will also be carried out via integrated analyses. Participants will also receive a full report on the state of their company. The report looks at the ongoing trends and future developments of the industry and is expected to be published every two years to coincide with the well recognised trade fair.
VDMA Special Show
It’s not possible that VDMA does not put up an impressive show at one of the most well known tool and mould making shows in Europe. At Moulding Expo, VDMA’s special show – Metal Working innovative demonstrated and explained the central contribution of innovative cutting tools, chucking tools and standard parts for competitive tool making. At the session, a laser-individualised giveaway was also produced on a progressive die from VDMA member Käfer Werkzeugbau.
Visitors were seen attending the special show with great enthusiasm as the giveaway also made heads turn in the process.
Future forum on tool and mould making
As the name suggests, the forum focused on the future prospects of the tool and mould making industry. Industry leaders offered presentations on a wide range of topics such as tool making of the future, what purchasers expect of tool making companies, insights on laser texturing and injection-moulding-compatible component design, additive technologies – missed or potential opportunity for the future of the tooling industry, and so on.
Another highlight of this forum was the ‘Outstanding Lifetime Achievements in Tool, Pattern and Mould Making’ award. The prize felicitates pioneers and visionaries who introduce ground-breaking signals for their industry. The winner of this year is Professor Fritz Klocke and the award was given out by the publishing company moderne industrie.
Moulding Expo 2019 ended on a high note with exhibitors gaining potential business leads and visitors leaving the venue by getting the latest update on what’s happening in the tool and mould making industry.
