Hannover Messe 2018 Siemens shows: Digitalisation is not an option but a necessity
This year, too, digitalisation will dominate Siemens‘ presence on the Hannover Messe 2018, but this time concrete examples will be shown.

As Jan Mrosik, CEO Division Digital Factory, says: Siemens is the only enterprise on the market that can provide its customers with digital support via their complete value added chain.
The basis for implementation is the PLM-System Teamcenter as a collaboration platform that also joins suppliers and logistics. Moreover, products, manufacturing processes and performance of the real products are shows as digital twins so that one can test, install and optimise them at a early stage.
Siemens shows that the digitalisation of the value added chain permits a competitive advantage thanks to higher flexibility, efficiency and quality. Mrosik goes even further: “Digitalisation is necessary in order to keep business alive in the first place.“ We have experienced this ourselves in the case of the Amberg plant. The plant was opened in 1990, with 1,200 employees. It has been possible to maintain this number, but the number of manufactured variants and products has been increased tenfold. That is possible with the digital twins, the cloud-based IoT operating system Mindsphere and the automation components of Siemens.
Concrete examples show the usefulness of digitalisation
Under the motto “Digital Enterprise – Implement now“, visitors to the fair will be able to experience on the basis of examples how all this works in practice. For instance, the digital twin of a brewery will be shown, as well as a Chinese tool machine that has already been simulated and created in Germany via a digital twin.
A further focus of Siemens’ fair appearance will be additive manufacture. Siemens claims to be the world’s only supplier of integrated software and hardware solutions for each value-added phase in the sphere of additive manufacture. For users, this means that the entire digital process chain is illustrated in an integrated software environment. The tools for development, simulation, production preparation and 3D printing are integrated in a comprehensive system and can be operated via a uniform user interface.

New version of Mindsphere available
Apart from the showcases, Siemens will also preset numerous new or upgraded products. For instance, Mindsphere Version 3.0 will be available – now on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This version should offer a more efficient development environment, additional analytical functions and expanded connectivity.
Moreover, Siemens will show a range of new apps connected with automation with Simatic systems. The new Simatic Mind-Apps Machine Monitor, Notifier and Performance Monitor are special applications for Mindsphere with which the user can enjoy the benefits of cloud-based services and generate value added. The Simatic Mind-Apps read the relevant data from production machinery or facilities for the purpose of analysis, process them into meaningful information, display them in dashboards or use them for smart alerting and reporting.
