Clariant Masterbatches Saudi Arabia: Clariant Starts of New Plant in Yanbu
Clariant, a world-renowned leader in specialty chemicals, announces that construction work has begun on a new, state-of–the art masterbatch production unit in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia on February 11, 2016.
The new manufacturing site belongs to Clariant Masterbatches Saudi Arabia, a joint venture of Clariant and Rowad National Plastic Company Ltd. It’s a subsidiary of Tasnee, which is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi group acquired a 40% stake in Clariant Masterbatches Saudi Arabia in 2013. At that time, the two JV partners had already created plans for a white masterbatch joint venture, originally due to start up in 2015. The Swiss group that also operates a manufacturing plant in Riyadh, mentioned that the investment is one of the most important for its Masterbatch business unit in recent years.
Yanbu is an industrial city located on the Red Sea about 350 km north of Jeddah. With a population of almost 2,00,000 and home to 32 major hydrocarbon, petrochemical, and mineral industry sectors, the location in Yanbu will not only give the new plant ready access to raw materials produced at the industrial site, but is also located close to sea and airport facilities, creating opportunities for exports to other regions.
Ossamah Elshebany, General Manager of Rowad National Plastic Co. said, “We are pleased to celebrate the start of this new project. The additional capabilities will be important in growing and extending our market share in this region’s downstream plastics industry.”
“Building this world-scale plant is a logical next step in our relationship with Rowad/Tasnee, our JV partner since August 2013,” said Marco Cenisio, Head of Business Unit Masterbatches. “It will allow us to offer a broader product portfolio to customers in the Kingdom and in the Middle East/Africa region.”
