Ceratizit MaxiMill 491 – the new 90° shoulder milling system

With MaxiMill 491 the top-class brand Cutting Solutions by CERATIZIT is extending its product range to include a 90° shoulder milling system with eight cutting edges. Technologically the carbide experts have been exploring new avenues. "The MaxiMill 491 system features a simple concept and unparalleled technology," says Mario Wolf, product manager milling. The new insert seat design enables the insert to be changed quickly, even inside the machine, ensuring easy handling for the operator.
Economical thanks to eight usable cutting edges
The MaxiMill 491 shoulder milling system is exceptionally economical thanks to the inserts with eight cutting edges in the carbide grades BLACKSTARTM and SILVERSTARTM. "Compared to competitors the MaxiMill 491 system has a very attractive price per cutting edge," says Wolf. As the system is suitable for both, roughing and finishing, reduced tool changing times also contribute to its economic efficiency. Furthermore, additional machining operations are no longer necessary as the approach angle is exactly 90° and the surfaces produced are very good.
Maximum performance with excellent quality
Thanks to the latest manufacturing technology inserts produced with tolerance H guarantee outstanding axial and radial run-out, long tool life and high-quality surfaces. The tools with irregular pitch and perfectly adapted approach angles ensure reduced vibration and a smooth cut combined with low power consumption.
Start programme for a variety of applications
The MaxiMill 491 milling system is suitable for universal application (e.g. face milling, shoulder milling, peripheral milling, slot milling and trochoidal slot milling). The start programme includes tools with a nominal diameter from 32-160 mm and precision inserts in assembly size 12 mm and a corner radius of 0.8 mm. The shell milling cutters are available with a wide or narrow pitch. The F, R and M chip grooves combined with the latest grade technologies cover applications of steel, cast iron, stainless steel and aluminium materials in the ISO ranges P-K-M-N. Cutting Solutions by CERATIZIT offers tool holders in metric dimensions for shell milling cutters, end mills and milling cutters with threaded shank. From June 2016 these will also be available in inch dimensions.
With this new development CERATIZIT once again shows that maximum performance and excellent quality can be achieved with optimised process costs.
