OKS Spezialschmierstoff – a tribology specialist active worldwide – presents at the Hannover Messe new and proven lubricants and lubricating solutions for special applications in drive technology.

Such lubricants and applications should be understood as essential elements of an efficient drive technology and as influential factors in an effective sustainability strategy, the firm emphasises. They apparently make a large contribution to raising machine and installation efficiency and minimising operating costs.

In particular, the firm presents high-performance special lubricants for the food industry, such as the OKS 4220 extremely high temperature bearing grease. This grease for roller bearings was developed specially for applications under extremely high loads and temperatures. It is certified to NSF H1 and free of MOSH/MOAH substances. This means that the risk of unwanted contamination is reduced to a minimum, we hear.

“There is an unmistakable trend to raise the performance of lubricants further by intelligent additives without critical ingredients,” says Markus Breitenbach, marketing manager at OKS Spezialschmierstoffe: “Bio-degradable special lubricants and cleaners, and also water-based bonded coatings and corrosion protection products, likewise help to save the environment and to raise product security in all areas of industry.”

The performance of newly developed environmentally friendly lubricants apparently often surpasses that of conventional solutions, Breitenbach adds. Giving an impressive example, he mentions the lubrication of transport chains, in which transported cans are lacquered after deep-drawing and the lacquer is cured at around 210° C.

The cans are transported through the curing oven on fast-running chains, reaching a throughput of up to 20,000 cans per hour. Compared to the previous lubricant, use of OKS 3570/1 high-temperature chain lubricant results in a 60 % saving of lubricant, with the service lifetime of the transport chain more than doubled.

In future, the search will not be so much for the right greases and oils, according to OKS, but for application-oriented lubrication systems.
