Industry forum ISTMA makes an impression at Moulding Expo

The International Special Tooling and Machining Association (ISTMA) session was one of the supporting programmes that was hosted at the recently held trade fair – Moulding Expo in Germany. Industry stalwarts presented numerous insightful sessions on this platform which was attended by a significant number of visitors.

The recently held Moulding Expo show in Stuttgart, Germany gathered the entire international tool and mould making industry under one roof. Right from exhibiting the latest innovations in the specialised industry to networking and hosting expert sessions on the most recent industry trends, the popular event had it all.

Accompanying programme

Another highlight at the trade fair were the accompanying programmes which were much talked about amongst industry players and one of them included insightful sessions organised by the International Special Tooling and Machining Association (ISTMA) at the ISTMA Lounge in Hall 9. The three day programme witnessed presentations from eminent speakers on a range of topics relevant for the global tool and mould industry. It also focussed on regional markets as well as the establishment of global relationships in tool construction.

The programme began with the ISTMA World Forum official opening ceremony which was addressed by Bob Williamson, ISTMA World President. Post this segment, many other interesting sessions were held by industry stalwarts on all the days. For instance, Markus Heseding, VDMA shared his views on the business situation and challenges present in the German tool and mould making sector; Christian Piantchenko, GF (Switzerland) elaborated on new technologies for moulds graining including innovations such as EDM and laser technologies; and Dirk van Dyk from National Tooling Initiative Programme (South Africa) focussed on the global skill standards for tooling, machining and automation.

In addition to this, Wu Bingshu from China Die & Mould Industry Association (China) discussed the developments in China along with an overview on the 16th ISTMA World Conference; Kristian Arntz, Fraunhofer IPT (Germany) spoke about the development trends for flexible tool manufacturing via networked adaptive production; and Ralph Rösing, DMG Mori (Germany) where he revealed a roadmap to implement automated production in today’s industry.

Other speakers included Quinton Uren, Jendamark (South Africa) who shared his insights on automated assembly systems; Tapiwa Samanga, PtSA (South Africa) shared details on the ISTMA Africa forum; Hidehiko Yamamoto, Makino (Japan) highlighted the common challenges from customers and Makino innovations for the die and mould industries. Mike Berry, Manufacturing Technologies Association (UK) emphasised on the industrial strategy in the UK.

Apart from the fact that so many leaders shared their insights on the industry, the ISTMA Lounge also acted as a networking platform wherein industry players could interact and discuss their views. In-depth discussions, sharing of innovative ideas and meeting the right people from the industry made the programme a success.
