The Vibrant Gujarat summit has in leaps and bounds reached its 8th edition in 2017, taking place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 10th -13th January 2017. The summit is the brain child of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, India and was started with an aim to showcase Gujarat’s advantages as an industrial and manufacturing hub. The Prime Minister has time and again emphasized his ‘Make In India’ concept both nationally and internationally. The summit encompasses this concept with one of its objectives to leverage Gujarat’s manufacturing leadership in the country.

According to the Chief Secretary to the State of Gujarat, DR J N Singh, manufacturing has always been the strongest foundation of the state and continued to be a major focus during the summit. “In the past we have laid focus on the automobile sector and the state has emerged as a hub for automobile (manufacturing). With newer opportunities lying in the defence sector, which is in a nascent stage today, it would be a key focus area for Gujarat as we want the state to be the next defence hub of the country. At Vibrant Gujarat we would be signing MoUs with some major Indian companies as well as some big foreign companies,” Stated Singh just before the event.

Participation

Over two million visitors graced this year’s summit, meeting and interacting with delegations from over 15 countries including Denmark, UK, Australia, Poland , UAE and France. A special discussion on engineering, heavy engineering & automotive – opportunities in the era of technological transformation saw eminent speakers from the industry take centre stage with their views. Another highlight of the summit was the Global CEO Conclave, which was last year flagged off by the Prime Minister.

Achievements

According to the Prime Minister, creating and enabling a conducive environment for business and industry remains a priority for his government. “We have placed the highest emphasis on Ease of Doing Business," he said. "My government is strongly committed to continue the reform of the Indian economy. At the end of the event a record 25,578 MOU’s were signed during the three day summit.
