There is growth in the family of production technologies: In addition to classical processes such as milling, turning and grinding, additive manufacturing has established itself as an important production method. Industrial 3D printing is therefore no longer just the creative offspring, but on its way to becoming an adult.

The majority of German industrial companies now use additive manufacturing. According to a survey by Bitkom Research, 27 percent of German industrial companies use 3D printing. Even more impressive is the result of a survey by the VDMA: 47 percent of VDMA members use additive manufacturing - mainly for prototyping, but also frequently for tools as well as spare or series parts.

This successful development of the entire sector is also reflected in Formnext 2018 (13 - 16 November 2018 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany): ten weeks before the start of the exhibition, the two hall levels of Hall 3 are already fully to capacity with an expected 550 exhibitors and an exhibition area of 36,000 square metres. This means that the leading trade fair for additive manufacturing and the next generation of manufacturing technologies is once again recording significant growth, both in terms of exhibitors and exhibition space.

Information about applications

Formnext is the perfect place to find out about the latest developments and applications in industrial 3D printing. The world's leading suppliers of additive manufacturing systems and innovative companies from numerous other areas of the entire process chain will be presenting their solutions here.

A requirement for the successful use of additive manufacturing is often a comprehensive know-how of the entire production process, which begins with the design and extends from additive production technology to post-processing and QA. With its wide range of different companies, technologies and services, Formnext supports users to enter industrial 3D printing or to use additive technologies even more successfully.

Supporting program creates additional added value

The extensive and innovative supporting program of Formnext represents an additional added value. The high-quality conference organized by Content Partner TCT brings together leading thinkers from the AM industry and users from the manufacturing industry. The "Ready4industry" user case area of the AM working group within VDMA e.V., the honorary sponsor of Formnext, provides information on the use of additive manufacturing in industrial and mechanical engineering.

The Start-up Challenge has established itself as an important competition for promising young companies. In addition, the international purmundus challenge, the international competition for innovative ideas in design, awards prizes to creative companies under the motto "Preparing for the future with 3D printing". The AM4U platform offers career opportunities, further training and personal contacts in all aspects of additive manufacturing. The program includes an international cooperation exchange, a career day and the Discover3Dprinting seminar series. In addition, Formnext 2018 will see the first ever "AM Standards Forum" an international standards summit, organized in cooperation with the U.S. Commercial Service to promote the transatlantic development of uniform production standards and norms.
