Product focus Fritz Studer unveils new CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine
Fritz Studer launched the new grinding machine at the recently held EMO Hannover trade fair in Germany. The S33 CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine is capable of grinding small, medium-sized as well as large workpieces with a weight of up to 150 kg for custom, small-scale and mass production. It also offers flexibility as users can switch their operations from grinding between centers to live spindle grinding with ease.
Fritz Studer is one of the major industry players offering machines with universal, external and internal cylindrical grinding as well as noncircular grinding. Headquartered in Switzerland, the company also offers software as well as hardware solutions, thus ensuring that its customers are offered end-to-end solutions. Its customer base belongs to the machine tool, tool-and-die, automotive, aerospace, pneumatic/hydraulics, electronics, medical and watch industries.
Recently, Fritz Studer participated at the world’s biggest trade fair for the metalworking industry – EMO Hannover 2019 in Germany. At the show, the company showcased many innovative technologies and solutions however; its showstopper was the new S33 CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine which was unveiled at the mega event.
Showstopper – S33 CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine
The new machine is capable of grinding small, medium-sized as well as large workpieces with a weight of up to 150 kg for custom, small-scale and mass production. With a center height of 175 mm, the S33 CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine is available with distances between centers of 400, 650, 1,000 and 1,600 mm. Light work of complex workpieces i.e. fully grinding them in a single clamping process is also made possible with this machine.
The universal cylindrical grinding machine also offers flexibility as users can switch their operations from grinding between centers to live spindle grinding with ease. This means that the machine can be retooled in record time. The base of the machine has been created from solid Granitan S103; a mineral casting which comprises enhanced thermal properties and offers a superior level of dimensional accuracy. It is interesting to note that temporary temperature fluctuations are also largely balanced out with the usage of the mineral casting.
With an aim to boost productivity, Fritz Studer has also incorporated an innovative temperature control system. In addition to this, the longitudinal slide on the base features a double T-slot for attaching the dressing unit, which makes setting up and resetting the machine a convenient process.
EMO Hannover – the ideal platform
Apart from this launch, there were many other solutions that were exhibited by the Swiss firm. Global industry players were left spell bound with the superiority of these innovations and were seen actively interacting with company representatives at the trade fair. All in all, EMO Hannover 2019 proved to be a successful platform for Fritz Studer as it launched the new S33 CNC universal cylindrical grinding machine at the international metalworking show.
