Event preview Formnext 2018: Global platform for the additive manufacturing industry
The trade show will display the latest innovations in the additive manufacturing sector and also demonstrate the wonders of product development when traditional tool making and additive technologies are combined.
The global manufacturing industry has transformed with time and is now incorporating enhanced contemporary solutions to meet the challenging demands of the sector. It is in this scenario that trade fairs such as Formnext enable industry players to stay updated on the latest cutting-edge solutions. Held every year, the international exhibition and conference for the next generation of manufacturing technologies is scheduled to be held from November 13–16, 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The show has a strong focus on additive manufacturing and hence, it is one of the most popular events for players in this field. Some of the heavyweight players exhibiting at this year’s expo include DMG Mori, Renishaw, Trumpf, BASF 3D printing solutions, GE Additive and many others. Formnext also highlights other industrial segments such as manufacturing solutions, industrial tooling, software, design and product development, quality management and metrology, materials and components, training and research and development.
Euroblech insight: Digitalisation, lightweight construction and E-mobility
According to the organiser, Mesago Messe Frankfurt the number of exhibitors has grown by 50 % as compared to the same period last year (as of 15 March 2018). Recent reports state that the show expects 550 exhibitors to participate at the show out of which 165 are new exhibitors from 26 nations. This shows the level of innovation that is taking place around the world in this field. It also provides an insight into the numerous industries looking to adopt 3D printing i.e. additive manufacturing in their processes.
Apart from the display of specialised and tech-savvy innovations, Formnext also offers interesting lectures and presentations to enable networking and guide new career opportunities. For instance, the show’s TCT conference has invited leading industry players to speak about diverse industry subjects such as ‘Additive Manufacturing on the Road - Journey from Prototyping to Production’, ‘Disruptive Fuselage Study by Topological Optimisation and Additive Manufacturing’, ‘Additive Manufacturing on the Rise – a Business Perspective on Automotive Applications’, ‘Implementing AM in the Automotive Sector’, and other such related topics. An exciting session on 3Dprinting called ‘Discover3Dprinting’ will also be hosted at the venue to offer an in-depth view about the additive manufacturing concept and its many benefits.

Youngsters at formnext
In addition to this, Formnext also has many other sessions to encourage youngsters in the field such as the Start Up Challenge in which five young firms are selected to showcase their innovations at the event’s Start-up Area. This year’s five luck winners are 3DFortify from USA, Aerosint from France, AMendate and Kumovis from Germany and Nanogrande from Canada.
Career Day is another opportunity for young talent to be recruited into the additive manufacturing industry. To be held on November 15, the programme aims at guiding young people by giving them one-on-one career counseling and then making them ready to apply for jobs at the various exhibiting companies.
All this and much more awaits for visitors at the trade fair. Book your tickets here now!
