Event preview EMO 2019 is here!
Considered as the biggest show for machine tools and the machining industry, EMO is all set to impress industry leaders and visitors yet again. Smart technologies and innovations are expected to dominate this trade fair and this makes it a ‘must attend’ show for industry players across the globe.

With around 2,107 exhibitors from 47 countries participating at EMO, this event is already making headlines! Expected to be officially inaugurated by Andreas Scheuer, Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure on September 16, 2019 in Hannover, Germany, the trade fair will showcase the latest technologies and innovations in the manufacturing space. Spread across a massive area of 178,000 m2, the six-day long show will attract visitors from across the globe.
In line with the most recent technological trends such as Industry 4.0, EMO’s motto for this edition is ‘Smart technologies driving tomorrow’s production’. Taking this idea ahead, the trade fair will focus on various new-age subjects such as machine learning, predictive maintenance, smart data and data analysis.

Industry 4.0
A new and dedicated exhibition area on ‘Industry 4.0’ has been created so that visitors can explore the many dimensions of this concept. Around 31 exhibitors will be displaying their unique and stunning innovations in this zone. Industry 4.0 related innovations such as safe data transmission, cloud applications, smart clamping devices, etc will be exhibited in this segment.

Forum on ‘new technologies – future opportunities’
This forum will focus on the future of production technology and offers an opportunity for exhibitors to get in touch with customers. The session will include half day presentation on many industry relevant topics such as Industry 4.0 / IOT, data security, platforms, machine learning and AI, OPC UA, additive manufacturing, 5G in manufacturing, and umati – universal machine tool interface.
umati – universal machine tool interface
umati is an industry initiative of the VDW and is the interface standard based on OPC UA. It is all about creating standardised connections to a machine regardless of the IT system that is used. In other words, data transmission from machines to any higher-level IT systems is made possible with umati. A live demo of this will be showcased for the first time at EMO wherein 50 plus companies from seven countries will be demonstrating umati.
Special events @EMO
The grand show will also host a series of special events to offer its global visitors with a 360 degree view on the latest happenings in the manufacturing industry.
Additive Manufacturing circle
Visitors can experience the various applications of additive manufacturing or 3D printing in this area. For instance, the automotive, aircraft, mechanical engineering and medical technology sectors are the major segments where this technology is used. Over 70 exhibitors from around the world will be presenting their latest AM technologies at this segment.

Young tech enterprises
EMO also encourages young entrepreneurs from around the world to exhibit their ideas and solutions to the global manufacturing industry. This year, 34 companies from diverse countries such as Germany, the UK, India, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Czech Republic will be participating at the show.
Special youth show
With an aim to encourage youngsters to develop an interest in the industry, experts from the field will discuss several industry aspects with a special focus on digitalisation. Process chains highlighting technical aspects of metalworking professions, metalworking career information, and many other related subjects will also be shared with students at the show.
Start-up competition
Besides impressive technology displays, EMO will also be giving away the ‘Special Digitalisation in Production’ Award with an aim to support start ups in the production environment. Five business ideas will be awarded and another 15 entries will be acknowledged for their ideas. The show has already received over 250 applicants from numerous start-ups and the winners will be announced on September 17, 2019.
