At its booth, NKE Austria presents burnished roller bearings. Burnishing improves the bearing’s running-in and wear characteristics and protects against environmental influences.

Burnishing puts a protective coating on iron or steel parts. The surface of the treated component is transformed into a mixed oxide layer of 1 to 2 µm thickness. Such roller bearing components possess special technical characteristics, especially when they move in relation to each other. A multi-faceted protective effect is already detectable with single burnished elements, usually the rolling elements. The best results, however, are achieved when all functional surfaces in a roller bearing are burnished.

For burnishing, NKE uses a process already established in other sectors to achieve particular improvements in the technical properties of roller bearings. This technology has proved to be particularly effective in practice with cylindrical roller bearings. Burnishing of bearings has proved to be an especially cost-effective measure for improving service lifetimes in critical applications.
