The UK-based company, Additive Manufacturing Technologies specialises in post processing of 3D printed parts for high volume end-use applications. Keeping in mind the dynamics and importance of additive manufacturing in an Industry 4.0 scenario, the firm has introduced the PostPro3D innovation. The exclusive technology is an automated post processing solution for smoothing thermoplastic polymer 3D parts. With the assistance of this solution, one can obtain an injection moulded surface quality on parts that have been printed by making use of the laser sintering, HP multi jet fusion, high speed sintering, or fused deposition modelling technology.

AMT’s PostPro3D innovation

The PostPro3D solution is equipped with Additive Manufacturing Technologies’ proprietary Blast (Boundary Layer Automated Smoothing Technology) process technology. The Blast process is a physio-chemical process that can smooth a wide variety of thermoplastic polymers. It is also a non-line-of-sight process that can smooth complex internal cavities of polymer parts. The PostPro3D technology is highly controllable and offers multiple benefits such as reduction of manufacturing as well as operational and maintenance costs along with decrease in lead-time.

In terms of costs, the technology proves to be ideal for part surface finishing owing to which high volume production in the medical, automobile and aerospace sector becomes possible. It is interesting to note that the PostPro3D innovation can achieve a surface finish with an Ra of less than 1 micron. Another significant feature of this innovation is that it is connected to the 3G cellular network which enables remote monitoring, automated consumable re-ordering, and automated predictive maintenance and diagnostics.
