At its Metav booth, Mastercam will present the latest version of its CAD/CAM software. The live demonstrations will be the highlight, because a 5-axis machining centre will produce a component on site.
Due to the larger area of contact with the component compared with ball cutters, a larger path separation is possible in finishing.

The focus will be on dynamic 5-axis milling and finishing with circular segment cutters, as Mastercam optimizes the programming of basic 5-axis contour machining to dynamic roughing and complex finishing operations.
Dynamic milling
The Dynamic Motion Technology for dynamic milling is based on years of experience. The tool receives its characteristics appearance from a special calculation algorithm. The advantages of this process, according to Mastercam, are flowing tool movements, absence of abrupt changes of direction and the resulting lower wear, savings in time and money, shorter processing times, longer tool service lifetimes, fewer tool changes, and processing of hard materials.
Finishing with circular segment end mills
Finishing with circle segment end mills offers advantages compared with conventional processing. Mastercam supports various circle segment end mills. Due to the larger area of contact with the component compared with ball cutters, a larger path separation is possible in finishing. This apparently means that higher surface quality is achieved in a shorter cycle time. Mastercam supports both single-surface and multi-surface processing. These functions are included in Mastercam Multiaxis and offer 3-HSC and 5-axis tool paths.
